That’s where we come in

We work to help ensure animal welfare legislation is upheld.

Using our legal expertise to examine evidence, identify potential breaches of the law and pursue opportunities to hold those responsible to account.

20

YEARS OF THE ACT

Pledge £20 for 20: Help us make the law work for animals.

On 8th November 2006, the Animal Welfare Act received Royal Assent, marking an important milestone for animal welfare in England and Wales. The legislation established vital protections for animals, helping to safeguard their welfare and hold those responsible for their care accountable.

Twenty years later, these protections remain just as important. But having laws in place is only part of the picture. Ensuring those laws are understood, respected and upheld takes action. That's where Lawyers for Animals comes in.

Lawyers for Animals is one of the most promising new initiatives in the movement. The charity combines legal credibility with real strategic ambition, and it is already building the kind of prosecution capacity we have lacked for years. The model of absorbing lawyers, systematising evidence, and turning investigations into actual legal consequences is exactly what’s been missing. LFA could transform enforcement in England and shift how the public understands factory farming. I’m excited to support their next phase.”
